The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the Town’s Trash and Recycling program. This includes trash, recycling, yard waste, bulk trash and bulk metal collections. We also coordinate the Town Recycling Area, located at the Department of Public Works, Recycling Events, as well as ongoing educational efforts for waste reduction.

Our goal is to reduce waste by encouraging reduction, reuse and recycling over landfilling.

To accomplish this goal, we provide many recycling options at DPW, including: electronics, bulk rigid plastics, waste motor oil, scrap metal, cardboard and overflow Mixed Recycling. We maintain a medium scale compost site, sell backyard compost bins and offer educational composting workshops. We offer special events for items with specific recycling instructions, like mattress/box spring, clothing/textile, sensitive document shredding and plastic bag/plastic film.

This division also oversees the Town’s trash and recycling contracts for all residents, including Town parks, recreation areas and Town-owned buildings, including public school buildings.  Educational opportunities are available for students, by request.

We host the Town’s Annual Earth Day Litter Clean-up, as well as support various litter clean-ups throughout the year to encourage litter prevention to keep our Town clean and green!
