Week of April 20 Update:

PAVING:

  • Paving on Contemporary Drive, Factory Pond Circle and Reaper Court was completed on April 16. Any remaining final cleanup will be completed this week.
  • The reclamation of Downingwood Drive, Cherrywood Drive and Hickory Lane was completed; the binder and surface course are scheduled for the week of the 20th.
  • Whipple Road reclamation was completed on April 16; binder and surface course are scheduled for this week.

 Please use caution and be aware of possible delays.

*Trash and Recycling will be picked up early morning on your normal trash day. Please have bins out by 6 AM.

 

NEW! RIDOT POTHOLE REPORTING

Call 511 to report potholes on state roads (list of Smithfield state roads under Highway, Streets, and Sidewalks).

RIDOT will begin repairing potholes on Smithfield state roads this week.

Please use caution and be aware of possible delays.

 

DPW Crews will continue repairing potholes on town roads also.

SOLID WASTE

Yard waste will be collected on the same day as your Trash and Recycling.

Please ensure yard waste is set at curb in brown paper bags or barrels clearly labeled YARD WASTE.

*Maximum of 12 bags per household.

 

PARKS

Please note increased work activity at town fields and playgrounds for the next few weeks as we finish spring cleanup.

 

SMITHFIELD WATER

Smithfield Water Supply Customers should expect their Quarterly Statement this week or next.

Reminder our payment portal allows you to make payments as well as view and print past and current bills.

ACH (or electronic checks) are now accepted! Autopay is available for ACH and credit card payments.

Function

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is charged with the responsibility of maintaining the town’s public rights of way and all infrastructure included within excepting sanitary sewers. Thus, traditional public works maintenance includes but is not limited to the following: road reconstruction, resurfacing, crack filling, potholes; curbs, bridges, culverts, drainage ditches; sedimentation, detention, and retention basins; roadside mowing, brush, vegetative control and forestry operations; street sweeping. Weather related winter operations include snow and ice control and seasonal operation of a sand screening plant. Environmental programs include the operations of an oil igloo, curbside yard waste and Christmas tree pick-up programs.
